Protected slings must be used for off-loading and erection. Galvanized work which is to be stored at the works or on site shall be stacked so as to provide adequate ventilation of all surfaces to avoid wet storage staining (white rust).

Galvanized contact surfaces to be joined by high-tensile friction-grip bolts shall be roughened before assembly so that the required slip factor (defined in BS 3294 part 1 and BS 4604 part 1) is achieved. Care shall be taken to ensure that the roughening is confined to the area of the mating faces
