%%In his childhood, Đinh Bộ Lĩnh (future Đinh Tiên Hoàng) often led the simulated battles between the boys tending buffaloes and was proclaimed King of Victories by them. Later, due to his merit of suppressing the competition for power between warlords, he ascended the throne and became emperor. Đinh Tiên Hoàng renamed our country Đại Cồ Việt with Hoa Lư as royal capital. Under his reign, the laws were very severe and the army was methodically organized. In 979, Đinh Tiên Hoàng and his eldest son were murdered by the mandarin Đỗ Thích.
