Her husband was the bachelor Lưu Nguyễn Ôn whose native village was in Nguyệt Ang, Thanh Trì district (Hà Nội). He was for some time chief of Thanh Quan district (Thái Bình). Under the reign of Minh Mạng, Bà Huyện Thanh Quan was invited to the royal palace to train the princess and the ladies-in-waiting. Her poems in nôm language were largely popular, full of lyrical and reminiscent qualities.
