%%Hàm Nghi (1872-1936) - a patriotic king of Nhà Nguyễn (Nguyễn Dynasty) - ascended the throne at the age of 13 (1884). Though so young, he was determined to affirm the independence of Vietnam. In 1885, when Huế fell to the French, Hàm Nghi and Tôn Thất Thuyết came back to Hương Khê (Hà Tĩnh) to promulgate Cần Vương (Royalist) Decree as appeal for nation-wide resistance. This resulted in the Văn Thân movement. Hàm Nghi was captured in 1888 and exiled to Algeria until his death (1938). Besides, he was a talented painter and musician.
