%%Hồ Quý Ly (1336-1407) - founder of Hồ Dynasty - was an influential noble in the Trần times. Becoming a prince in 1397, he obliged the king to abdicate in his favour in 1400, named the country Đại Ngu and set up the royal capital in Thanh Hoá (Tây Đô, or Citadel of Hồ Dynasty). Hồ Quý Ly undertook a series of reforms (Restricting land, restricting servility, printing bank-notes, taxing the merchant ships, importing arithmetic into examinations, translating Chinese books into Nom language, using nôm language in legal documents, establishing the service of public health, organizing the troops carefully). For lack of popularity, Hồ Dynasty was quickly defeated by the Ming invaders. In 1407, Hồ Quý Ly was captured and marched off to China.
