%%Lê Hữu Trác (Hải Thượng Lãn Ông, 1720-1792) - a famous herb-doctor and poet - was descended from a noble family in Đường Hào, Hải Dương (present-day Yên Mỹ, Hải Hưng). He learned both literature and martial arts, and served for some time in Lord Trinh's army. Later, he came to Hương Sơn (Hà Tĩnh) to study medicine. Y Tông Tâm Lĩnh compiled by him during 40 years was the most valuable work of the Vietnamese traditional medicine. Besides, his Thượng Kinh Ký Sự retold what he had heard and seen when being invited to the royal city to cure Lord Trịnh Sâm's family. Lê Hữu Trác's writings always reflected his personality : Paying no attention to fame and advantages, but having the sense of responsibility towards the life.
