%%Lê Quý Đôn (1726-1784) - an erudite intellectual and talented poet - was descended from an intellectual family in Hưng Hà (Thái Bình). Intelligent and studious from his early childhood, he graduated as bachelor (at the age of 18) and as doctor (at the age of 27), then hold many important posts (as minister) in the Lê and Trịnh times. With a wide knowledge and a scientific style of work, he had many contacts in many places of the country (by making inspections in Sơn Nam, Tuyên Quang, Lạng Sơn, Bình Định, Trấn Ninh, Thuận Hoá, Quảng Nam) and abroad (by coming as messenger to China, reading Chinese books translated from the Occidental languages). His works gathered the highest contemporary knowledges. Among 40 works on philosophy, history, science, culture..., the most outstanding were Vân Đài Loại Ngữ, Kiến Văn Tiểu Lục, Phủ Biên Tạp Lục, Toàn Việt Thi Lục, Đại Việt Thông Sử.
