%%With Chí Linh (Hải Dương) as native village, Mạc Đĩnh Chi (14th century) was born in a poor but intellectual family. He was the seven-generation ancestor of Mạc Đăng Dung. Legend has it that he was bad-looking but very intelligent. After having graduated as first-rank doctor, he went to China as special envoy from the king. Good at repartee, he protected the national prestige successfully. It is rumoured that the Mongol emperor gave him the title "First-rank doctor of both nations". This mandarin full of integrity himself was the author of the poem Ngọc Tĩnh Liên Phú (Lotus in a gem well).
