This dynasty itself initiated the period of independence after more than 1,000 years of Chinese domination. The seed of decentralism was clearly reflected by the competition for power between 12 warlords (966-968). The kings were Ngô Quyền (939-944), the throne-usurper Dương Tam Kha (944-951) and Ngô Xương Văn (951-965).
