%%With Minh Giám (Thái Bình) as native village, Phan Bá Vành (19th century) - leader of a peasant insurrection in the northern delta (1822-1827) - was descended from a poor peasant family and had to tend oxen in his boyhood. His activities spread in a large sphere (Quảng Yên, Thái Bình, Nam Định, then Sơn Tây, Hoà Bình, Thanh Hoá). His resistance base was set up in Trà Lũ (Xuân Trường, Nam Định). His ranks included Confucian scholars, influential landlords and women. He was proclaimed King Ba Vanh by the people.
