%%Tôn Thất Thuyết (1835-1913) - patriotic general of Nhà Nguyễn (Nguyễn Dynasty) and deputy minister of national defence - was at the head of the pro-war camp. After the unsuccessful attack on the French barracks in the night of July 4th 1885, Tôn Thất Thuyết escorted King Hàm Nghi to Hà Tĩnh where the latter would promulgate Cần Vương Decree. After having come to China and tried in vain to seek reinforcements, Tôn Thất Thuyết lived in exile there until his death.
