%%Expert in literary and military sciences, Trần Hưng Đạo (Hưng Đạo Vương Trần Quốc Tuấn, 1226-1300) was an eminent military strategist of Nhà Trần (Trần Dynasty). As a descendant of the Trần royal family, he was famous for benevolence and considering the national interests over the private resentment. He was three times commander-in-chief in the anti-Mongol wars (1258, 1285, 1288), and the most illustrious battle took place on Bạch Đằng River. He was the author of Hịch Tướng Sĩ (Appeal to officers and soldiers) and two military works Binh Thư  êu Lược (Manual on military basics) and Vạn Kiếp Tông Bí Truyền (Esoteric manual of Vạn Kiếp). Located in Hưng Đạo commune (Hải Hưng province), Kiếp Bạc Temple was Trần Hưng Đạos general headquarters during the resistance against the Mongol invaders. After having restored peace, he returned there to spend his old age peacefully and died in 1300. According to Đại Việt Sử Ký (Annals of Đại Việt), on his death bed, he asked to be secretly buried with a view to avoiding the discovery of the enemy. So, nobody knows exactly the location of his grave. In the temple, there are still the statues representing Trần Hưng Đạo, his wife and children and his confidential generals Phạm Ngũ Lão, Dã Tượng and  êt Kiêu. Festivals are annually organized at this temple on the 20th day of the lunar eighth month.
